P.A.C.E. Program
According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men in the United States will fight cancer in their lifetime. And did you know that 42% of those cancers can be prevented by better lifestyle choices? The Beat Cancer Family Foundation (BCFF) wants to change those statistics in our community. BCFF provides no cost cancer education programs to students in middle and high school, colleges, businesses and civic groups.
When we visit schools, universities, and local businesses, we present curriculum, entitled P.A.C.E. (Prevention and Cancer Education) that discusses what cancer is, types of cancer, early detection, how it is treated, and strategies for prevention. Our highly trained Public Health educator helps dispel myths, fears and inhibitions regarding cancer. By the end of our lessons, we have planted seeds of knowledge that will help save lives.
In the 2019-2020 school year, BCFF brought our education programs to 17,024 students. Of those, statistically 7,093 will be told by doctors, “You have cancer.” If 42% of those cases could have been prevented, 2,837 people do not have to hear those devastating words.
Knowledge is empowering and our programs can make a real difference in the health and wellness of our community!
